GLOVERSVILLE - Air Force Airman Nicholas A. Poultney graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Poultney is the brother of Ian Poultney of East State Street, Gloversville.

He is a 2007 graduate of Gloversville High School.

Sturgess is the son of Lori Mansell of Southpark Drive, and grandson of Arlene Sturgess of South Kingsboro Avenue, both of Gloversville.

He is a 2012 graduate of Gloversville High School.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Sturgess is the son of Lori Mansell of Sixth Avenue, and grandson of Arlene Sturgess of Kingsboro Avenue, both of Gloversville.

He is a 2011 graduate of Gloversville High School.

GLOVERSVILLE - Army Pfc. James D. Hayner has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

He is the son of Jerry Hayner of Forest Street, Gloversville, and Leslie Pollak of Sacandaga Road, Johnstown.

Hayner graduated in 2008 from Gloversville High School.

AMSTERDAM – The ‘Meet the Legislatures’ breakfast will be held in partnership with Project ACTION on March 15 at 8 a.m. at 112 Perthshire Drive in Amsterdam.

 To date, Senator Farley, Assemblyman Butler, and Amsterdam Mayor Thane will provide their goals for the future and address current challenges our region faces.

The breakfast is $20per person  for Chamber members and their employees- Public invited to attend at $25pp.

Local Army Spec. returns to U.S. after overseas deployment

 

JOHNSTOWN - Army Spec. Stanley B. Hayner has returned to the U.S. after being deployed overseas at a forward operating base to serve in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Operation Enduring Freedom is the official name given to anti-terrorism military operations involving U.S. troops and allied coalition partners.  Active duty and reserve component members from all branches of the U.S. armed forces have been deployed to support the war against global terrorism outside the borders of the United States.  U.S. troops serve in South, Southwest and Central Asia, the Arabian peninsula, the Horn of Africa, islands in the Pacific, and Europe.

Hayner is a cannon crewmember assigned to the 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.  He has served in the military for one year and eight months.

Schumer plays important role in presidential inauguration

WASHINGTON - New York's Senior Sen. Charles Schumer played an integral part in Monday's festivities as chairman of the Inauguration Committee.

It was therefore his duty to open and guide the 57th inaugural ceremonies.

"No matter how many times one witnesses this event, it...never fails to make ones heart beat faster," he said.

Schumer is also using the opportunity to promote New York products, including many made right here in our area. The menu for the day included Fage Greek yogurt from Johnstown, Saratoga Water and pie with apples from Golden Harvest Farms in Columbia County.
