Suspected burglar sends text while running from police

“I am outrunning the police, come get me!” was the text message police say a burglar sent a friend while running from troopers in Cobleskill.

Police received a call for a burglary at 113 Baldwin Rd. in the Town of Summit Friday just after 9 p.m. A witness told police two men fled the scene in a dark green pickup that was later spotted traveling along Rt. 10.

Troopers say the driver parked the truck in the area of the Old Summit Country Store and the two suspects, 36-year-old Wayne Swart of Hobart and 18-year-old Devyn Clum of Bloomville, fled on foot. That’s when police say Clum sent the text message to a friend stating that he was running from the police and needed to be picked up.

Officials say Clum was caught first, while Swart was located some time later with the help of DEC Officer Keith Isles and his K-9. After searching the vehicle, police discovered equipment used to break into buildings.

BROADALBIN, N.Y. - State police say a dock floated up into someone's yard along Sacandaga Lake in the town of Broadalbin.

Nudists hang out at camp in Sprakers

A lot of people go camping to celebrate the Fourth of July.

One Montgomery County campground invites you to visit, as long as you leave your clothes behind.

In the rural town of Sprakers, you'll see a sign warning for “nude sunbathers ahead.” If you drive a little further, there's a chain blocking the entrance of a place called Full Tan Sun Club. You'll be greeted by Carol Bingham, in the buff.

That's right, it’s a nudist camp.

Bingham has owned the place for 11 years.

People who pay a fee to be a member come and go as they please, shedding their synthetic skin at the door.

“Look around you, the place has fresh clean air, beautiful grounds, I love the wild life,” said nudist Stu Rafferty.

But there are rules.

“We are not a swinger club. I don't tolerate that behavior," she said.

MAYFIELD - She doesn't look like a man eater. Owner-exhibitor Steve Salton, 61, seemed pretty confident as he interacted with Calcutta, a female Bengal tabby he obtained almost two years ago from the Asheville Zoo.

But Salton stresses these aren't pets.

"They'll kill when they're hungry and they'll kill if they're provoked," Salton said. "They're always locked up."

There's four-year-old Logan, the biggest of the cats.

Caesar, also a four year old, was obviously upset by the unfamiliar camera crew, but seemed more scared than aggressive.

Then there are leopards Viper and Shadow, who did their best to act like overgrown house cats.

Neighbor Rich Travis has no affection for the wild animals caged next door. He wants them gone and is doing his best to make that happen.

"No one wants to step up and so we keep pushing the issue and pushing the issue," said Travis.

Americans desire time travel, mind reading powers

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) - Being able to fly would be nice, so would invisibility. But given a chance to pick one superpower, more Americans say they would want to travel through time or read other people's minds.

Time travel and mind reading tied for first place in a Marist College poll released Tuesday. Both superpowers received 28 percent of the votes out of five choices. Flying came in third followed by the ability to teleport and invisibility.

Pollsters surveyed 1,020 people across the country Nov. 15 through Nov. 18. The margin of error is plus or minus three percentage points.
